HISTORICAL TESTIMONIALS FOR DANIEL LAMBERT

"Ethan Allen was the sire of many good and fast horses, but his crowning effort in the stud was the producing of that most noted of all Morgans -- as the sire of speed -- Daniel Lambert, who was foaled in 1858, bred by W.C. Clark ofTicondaroga, N.Y. and was one of the most beautiful all-round horsestthat ever ived.
In trotting action he was simply perfect, and in his prime was called the most beautiufl horse in America. In color he wa a beautiful chade of chestnut, with one white hind foot and a star, with mane and tail of a lighter color -- flaxen of extraordinary fineness and beauty. he had a very fine limbs, neck, and head. He sired many fine speed-producing stallions, among which are Motion, Ben Franklin, Abraham, aristos, and others of note."

QUIETUDE VENTURE
Quietude Barcelona x Quietude Caress)
QUIETUDE VENTURE is owned by Carol Costello WV
Trained by Gary Napier WV Ridden & admired by Jessica
An email from Jess to Carol:
Hi Carol,
I had the pleasure of riding Venture today, and there are so many ways to describe him.  He is a little giant, with the pride of a lion!  He was amazing, athletic, and an absolute joy to ride!  You would have to pry me off of that boy, I just giggled, he was sooo much fun.  And I am sooo glad that I got to ride such a wonderful horse.  I must say too that he is worth every penny anyone would ever ask for him and I am glad to know that he has a wonderful owner such as yourself.  He was responsive, confident, and had such a contained power about him.  I felt like I was on a massive animal, with great big movement, he is just perfect.  I was in love, all his good looks follows through in his training, knowledge, and athleticism!  I know this was completely your decision, but I COMPLETELY approve :)  I am honored to know such a horse and he will go on to be your everything.  I am so excited for you.  I told Gary that I would love to ride him anytime he needed :)

"IT'S NOELLE'S WORLD, AND WE'RE JUST LIVING IN IT..."
Susan & Shannon, I had to write to tell you, I took Noelle on her first trailride a couple days ago! I've only sat on her twice before, but somehow I knew it was going to be fine. I put the bitless bridle on her and taught her a little about steering from the ground… then hopped on bareback and followed my friend Charles on Markell, the elderly gentleman Morgan gelding that lives in the paddock next to the filly. SHE. WAS. PERFECT. Except for a couple seconds of levitation (filly's toes floating above the ground, my tush floating above her back) and we actually cantered a couple steps (her choice, not mine) – but she calmed right down. Her only flaw was stopping several times and refusing to move, craning around for a treat (we have these compressed alfalfa cubes with raspberry worked into them… they smell so good, I want to try one). She is always Miss Entitlement, and no wonder, because we all spoil the you-know-what out of her. She's just absurdly cute. Anyway, she went down the trail like a pro, let me get off, let me get on again, walked on a loose rein on the road, sighed in a Resigned Way, and basically acted like she'd done it a million times. Her main concern was to sidle up to Markell and get in a Nip, `cause, she's Like That Sometimes'. I won't ride her much and I certainly won't do more than a walk for a good long time, but it's good to know that we've started. Boy she is fun… and just pure goodness… when she feels like it. Mary Booth MA

UPDATE:
We got Miss Jitterbug to stand still long enough for my mom to snap a picture. Here she is after a nice trailride (still just walking - interspersed with a couple moments of levitation - how she does that thing where she just floats upward with no forward movement is a real mystery but if I could bottle it, we could win prizes).
QUIETUDE CALAIS (Quietude Jubilee Kingdom x Quietude Paris)
I have to share a quick compliment on Lamberts:) I took Quietude Calais on a trail ride with one of my 4-H mothers.  It was just the two of us exploring to see if we could find 'the other end' of the local 22 mile Oconee National Forest trail.  I took 'Cali' who I've been pretty slack on working lately...I think it had been about six weeks since I'd been on her and she's still somewhere under 20 rides and this was only her second "away from home" trail ride.....  Well she was an angel...no spooking, jigging, or silliness. She watched where her feet were going and took everything calmly and in stride.  In fact, my friend, Dominique, kept admiring her and finally asked if she could ride her.  Then she didn't want to give her back :)  Dominique asked a lot of questions about Morgans in general, what they were capable of doing, size range, etc.  The best part was when she commented, "I just don't understand why Morgans aren't more popular...they just seem like the perfect family horse, all of yours are easygoing, fun and they do EVERYTHING!  It seems like there should be more of them around."

I've always said that we can win more Morgan converts if we just let these horse speak for themselves...:)  And Cali is a greenbroke four year old Lambert:))

Also...recently had a bazillion old horse magaizine donated to the 4-H club.  In an issue of the Paint Horse Journal from 1995 was a feature on the Greenbrier River trail....small world:)
Makes me ready to ride there again:)

CAROL MILLER RIDING QUIETUDE SARAHA & PAT NISSEN ON QUIETUDE CORDOVAIN THE SHAWNEE NATIONAL PARK IL

I just returned last Sunday from my semi annual trip out to Shawnee National Park IL for another beautiful week of riding Quietude Sahara through some magnificent landscape. Sahara and I put in about 30 hours on the trail that week and Pat Nissen came and we all had a wonderful time. I got to ride Pat Nisson's awesome boy Quietude Cordova who is rock solid and trained beautifully.  (I was giving Sahara a much deserved day off!) I felt I was on top of a mountain and he was very laid back.  He did startle one time when one of the other ladies sneezed which became a funny moment.  Anyway, after a 4.5 hour ride Cordova and I both wanted to ride more.  Thank you for all you do to make these great horses for us to enjoy and take care of us.

Susan,
I had a wonderful ride on Sahara Saturday in the Shenandoah National Park.  While we were tacking up a bicyclist came FLYING down the hill behind him while he was tied to the trailer. (I was in the trailer getting his saddle out.)  We were in the parking lot and the blurr on two wheels was on the road behind him on other side of a patch of grass which came out of nowhere and was gone in a blink of an eye and the only clue I had that anything was there was the whirring of the thing as it flew by.  Sahara could have cared less – what a good boy.  One of the ladies I was riding with saw the whole thing and couldn’t believe how good he was.  We then proceeded to encounter a bear along the trail and the two mules and he were fine with all that commotion as he tried to climb a tree and came crashing down out of it and ran away but they did walk along a bit more cautiously for a while.  He later took over the lead and courageously took us back to the trailers.

QUIETUDE TYGRESS EMBARKS

Hello Laurel and Eric, Equine Express arrived in Hillsboro at one a.m. Pulling a 49-foot trailer with road tractor. I've come to dread these middle of the night surprises. They had told us it would be Friday morning. But no harm. Tygress was a kitten to load--even by dim moonlight. We trucked her to Hillsboro where again she was so good--climbing the gang plank up into the giant rig, past giant horses with their heads jutting out at her, and led trustingly down a narrow passageway to her box stall in rear of the trailer. Shannon

UPDATE

Hi Susan & Shannon,
Tygress is getting along just great here. She has met the goat Casper and the pony,Raisin. She seems to especially like Tina the chestnut Morgan mare. I walked her around this morning to let her see more of the property. Whe is eating well and does not seem to be at all bothered by her long journey.

QUIETUDE LAREDO
(Quietude Barcelona x Critique of Quietude)

Dear Susan and Shannon, While we were at the Breeds Exposition we visited with Mary Booth from Massachusetts. It is nice to have people from the USA coming to Switzerland to see our Lambert Morgans. Laredo had just come from the winter paddock and he hadn't done much for the last month nevertheless he was great! He had to look at all the other stallions and mares but, as always, he was well behaved and an eye catcher! There is a big interest in the Morgans here and a lot of Swiss people don't know about the breed. Philipp and Laredo will go for ten days to the exposition in Bern like they did last year.

QUIETUDE RED VERMONT
(Criterion the Younger x Delilah Vermont)
Hi Susan,
The Lambert disposition really came true with Vermont.  When we bred the first mare, Ida
tied her to a post and I had Vermont with a lead.  She was so pleased with how well mannered Vermont was that from then on instead of holding her other mares most of the time we just opened Vermont's stall door and let him loose unrestrained.  I was so proud of
him with his behavior and knowing that it all comes from his Lambert breeding.

I asked Ida if the trip was worth it and she said that it was more than worth it.  She is totally
sold on Vermont and his breeding.  It is so nice to meet a knowledgeable breeder with a directed breeding program that recognises the value of our Lamberts.

QUIETUDE NORTHERN HORIZON
(Calcutta of Quietude x
Quietude Lavender)

Horizon has been sold to Mary Coleman & Mary Hornbarker. He will compete in Endurance. Mary Coleman & Hawk have racked up over 7,000 miles competitive Endurance riding.
WHAT MARY COLEMAN SAYS ABOUT QUIETUDE LAMBERT MORGANS:

When I was competing Hawk and racking up the miles many people asked me where to find a horse like him. Until this past week I did not know where. However the Morgans I saw at Quietude were awesome, they have all the great qualities that kept Hawk going year after year.
They had great bone and feet were very correct and moved lovely. One of my boarders has a four-year-old here that came from Quietude stock and he has been one of the most willing, fast learning horses I have ever seen. I would highly recommend these horses if you want a nice, well-bred, long-lasting competitor.
Morgan Power, Mary Coleman PA

HORIZON UPDATE
Hi Susan and Shannon,
Thought maybe I should drop you a note to let you know Horizon is a keeper! He is doing just awesome. Today we hauled away from home and rode in a strange place and as usual he led the whole time. As soon as he has a matching outfit we will send you pictures, right now he looks like 2nd hand Rose! His color is going to be turquoise. Mary

Susan, As I have watched this "transformation" from a close distance for the last two years I would like to make a few of my observations known. Sandy an experienced horse-woman of many years and an owner of Morgans in the past, has found a "New Love".  That being Ravel of Quietude and Natural Horsemanship.
We came to "Quietude" in the fall of 2007 and purchased Ravel as a yearling. We brought Ravel home to Brevard, NC in April of 2008. This is when the "Transformation" began. Sandy had been reading up on and watching videos of Natural Horsemanship all winter and Ravel had been growing into a fine young lad. Now it was time for the two to become a team. First Sandy would learn something from watching her Natural Horseman videos and then it would be Ravel's turn to learn. I have watch this take place and I am amazed at the transformation of both Sandy and of Ravel over the last year and a half. Sandy who was already an accomplished horse-woman, trainer, and rider has gained more self-confidence, knowledge of training and horsemanship. Ravel who is a bright, energetic, inquisitive, young lad, has become a wonderfully trained horse, companion, and friend. I am convinced that Natural Horsemanship is the way of the future in training horses and I am convinced that the Lambert Morgans of Quietude are the bridge from the past to the future of the wonderful Morgan Horse. If your looking for a winner.....Sandy and Ravel as a team "The Rewards of Natural Horsemanship and the Intelligence and Gentleness of the Quietude Lambert Morgans!" Susan, thanks for all you and Shannon do for the Morgan Horse at Quietude!

QUIETUDE MANDOLIN

(Quietude Jubilee Kingdom x
Quietude Madrid)

Hey Susan ... What a wonderful mare Mandolin is to work with – she is coming along so well ... I really can’t say enough about her without being boring. But I will:  she’s going straight and true under saddle already, coming up into the bit on her own, very early for her age and training ... you can see in most of the pictures how light her mouth is -- the rider needs no more than the weight of the reins themselves for effective contact, and thus they can bow between the bit and the hands  -- she brings her head in on her own ... not bad for year 1, let alone month 2.  Just a very fine and finely bred mare.

QUIETUDE CALAIS (Quietude Jubilee Kingdom x Quietude Paris)
Susan, Is there something ya'll didn't tell me about Calais? Like maybe she was already trained <grin>? Seriously, I saddled her for the first time yesterday and there were NO issues at all!! I had been working on sacking her out with a saddle pad, continued doing this yesterday, laid the pad on her back and then took up the saddle. After I let her smell it and look at it I started raising and lowering the saddle and no reaction. I started swinging the saddle at her belly...she was so concerned that she started trying to eat grass. Finally I just decided to treat her like a 'grown up horse'. Swung the saddle on her back, cinched her up, (complete with back girth, breast collar, etc)...still no reaction. I was sure that when I asked her to step off she would have a problem with the pressure of the girth if nothing else. nope...no bucking not even humping her back up. Acted like she had been doing this her whole life and was ready to go to work:) What a good girl!! Lucy Ray GA
QUIETUDE MARCO POLO
(Quietude Barcelona x Quietude Valencia)
Three-year-old stallion.

Things are good here. Marco (aka Rocketship) is happy and fit and we are having a blast bombing around on the trails. I figured we needed a bit more discipline though so we are having our first session with a Real Dressage Trainer on Sunday. I'm excited to improve my riding to be able to match MP's potential - he is ultra-responsive under saddle and it's clear I need to improve my equitation to bring him to the level he deserves!

S
usan, What fun it was to ride the trails on three Quietude geldings. Maxwelton, a Barcelona son, is a baroque dark chestnut and trail horse extraordinaire. Willing and so steady, he is the perfect training partner for Homeward, a flaxen Jubilee Kingdom son recently under saddle. To see Homeward enjoy the river, cross the wooden bridges, and ignore many potentially scary distractions was a real pleasure. He has given his trust to Cathy. And there you are on Calcutta's son Shenandoah -- always forward, curious and fun! These horses can often be ready to enjoy on the trail sooner than you would think. They are sensitive -- never dull.
Once you have their trust and respect, they are the best partners ever! Ruth NC

NEW ZEALAND COACH & FIVE WITH QUIETUDE GOLDRUSH & HIS GET

On the 2007 three month drive across the New Zealand's South Island.
Peter is driving the stallion Quietude Goldrush with four of Goldrush's offspring.

They are hitched to an historic reproduction of a Cobb & CO Coach built entirely by Peter.
This make of coach was used during the New Zealand gold rush that started in 1856 on the South Island.

IT WAS THE BEST OF TIMES, IT WAS THE WORST OF TIMES

IT WAS IN TIMES PAST, 1974 to be exact, soon after we moved to West Virginia from New York. At that time we had neither truck nor tractor when we were snowed in during a late spring blizzard. We had run out of hay for our horses, sheep & our few cows. Our neighbor offered to sell us hay but he had no way to get it to us. Shannon hitched Criterion to a sledge, he had only pulled a light cart before, & asked him to pull the hay home. They had to make several trips in the blowing snow but all animals were well fed because of CRITERION.

and a temperament to match. She commented that whomever bred him should be really proud
