The Lambert family takes its name from one of the most distinguished members of the Morgan breed, Daniel Lambert. Daniel Lambert's dam was Fanny Cook. She was a spirited, blue-bloodedí mare with an extraordinary pedigree tracing to the most revered names in equine history. Fanny Cook's half-brother Rysdykís Hambletonian 10 was the father of the Standardbred breed. The grand trot of the present day Lambert is derived, in part, from Fanny Cook's heritage. Daniel Lambert's sire, Ethan Allen, was the fastest trotting stallion in the world when alive.

There are certain horses which mark epochs in equine history just as certain men do in the history of humanity. Their advent is seldom marked by signs or portents, though often the latter are invented later for picturesque or perhaps less aesthetic purposes. As a rule, they come unheralded and without benefit of publicity.
Sometimes they live and die without recognition, and it is only as the generations, even the centuries, pass that their truly monumental character becomes apparent. Others, more fortunate in their careers, are recognized and made much of soon enough to permit the full exercise of the prepotency and the unrestricted play of their power as breed builders: as, one may say, elemental forces of enduring strength. Which ever way they come, and however they may tarry, once their name and fame are established, we delight to do them honor and to acknowledge again and again our debt to them.
